What do RMS Counselors Provide for Students?
Comprehensive Guidance Curriculum
Counselors develop lessons based on the district’s guidance objectives, Life Skills, 40 Developmental Assets and Personal Learning Plans. These lessons are taught by classroom teachers during our daily advisory time, better known as Packtime. The counselors also present bullying presentations at each grade level and constantly monitor student interactions.

Support Groups
All students have the opportunity to sign up for counseling support groups. Support groups are formed as need arises in each grade level. Once a group is formed they will last approximately 5 weeks and rotate through each class period. Some of the groups that we have provided in the past include: friendship, divorce, stress management, and social skills.

Internet Safety
Internet Safety is a topic that we all should pay close attention to, especially when it deals with our young people. Young people are involved on web sites such as Facebook.com and Myspace.com. These sites allow individuals to post daily journals, post pictures, and reply to others. Many of these sites are harmless and the kids that use them are very responsible with the information that they place on them. However, some of these sites may include personal information such as full names, address, phone number, school, and hobbies. This information is harmless for most people, but if someone with harmful intentions is reading this information the story changes. We are asking that all parents take an active role in knowing what their child is doing on the Internet. You should have access to your child s passwords and web address. Safeteens.com and safekids.ne.gov are sites that will serve as a resource for parents. Please take this opportunity to communicate with your children about their Internet use. See RMS Online Safety Webpage for more information.
Teammates
![]() |
TeamMates at Russell Middle School is an approved school activity designed to increase the support and academic success of identified students. TeamMates pairs a student who has demonstrated potential with an adult who is volunteering. The two meet once weekly at school, during school hours. The role of the mentor is to be a friend, a guide, and someone who can offer support and advice to a student to help that student work toward a successful high school experience and beyond. TeamMates exists throughout the Millard Public Schools and elsewhere in the state of Nebraska.
